The Latter Teens

Out of the highways
That span to the seas
The one that I'd take
Never stops in-between
A whole three thousand mile road
With one brief pause in Yellowstone
If the day comes
In which you decide
You want to waste some
And go for a drive
Well I'll be ready when you call
For Highway 20 in the fall
We'd be the quintessential leads
Who found love in the latter teens
I guess we'll wait and see
Specific shores wet
The terminus lies
Pacific Northwest
The end of the ride
With rolls of photos to compile
We won't see oceans for awhile
From Massachusetts
The lights all went down
Across the us
In its cities and towns
The main spots I consider home
The Rust Belt and the driftless zone
The way you thought your life might be
It fell apart in the latter teens
It always gets to me

Every Time Around

Thinking back to phase one
With woolen mallets and the bass drums
Early hours in the drive-thru
Playing early DIIV and Nite Jewel
We found ourselves in stage three
Observing murals dotting Lake Street
With every story comes a stalemate
When you've been living in a failed state
The night gets cold but there's smoke in the clouds
I'm having trouble sleeping and it's stressing me out
The words may fall short of something profound
But every time I'm with you I'm just glad you're around
How's it sound
Laid out in programmatic sets of three
We keep the time and music sets the scene
What's after a dream
My point of reference is the northern sky
Sometimes the synthesizers make me cry
We'll dance for awhile
Two, three, four
I guess you caught me in a dark mood
Which is to say I'm missing part two
I'm always hoping life will start soon
No one else can make my heart swoon
Like you do
The night gets cold but there's smoke in the clouds
I'm having trouble sleeping and it's stressing me out
The words may fall short of something profound
But every time I'm with you I'm just glad you're around
The night got cold there was smoke in the clouds
Then you came and found me when the world had me down
The words may fall short of something profound
But every time I'm with you I'm just glad you're around
How's it sound

Driving just to hear the preferable songs
You loop with every passing day
Taking note of every temp you’re on
The blinker lights will fall in phase
They’ll fall in phase
The sun won’t set for a long time
Golden hour
Never far
The moon results in a strong tide
Fewer stars
Sometimes I know love gets hard to find
In a flyover state
That’s just a state of mind
Out late several hours in the night
So whenever you call
Remember Central Time
Righting of the indefensible wrongs
Accrued with every passing day
Chanting with the insurrectional throngs
And hoping things will fall in place
They’ll fall in place
The sun won’t set for a long time
Golden hour
Never far
The moon revolves in a strange line
Where we are
Sometimes I know love gets hard to find
In a flyover state
That’s just a state of mind
Out late several hours in the night
So whenever you call
Remember Central Time (x2)
[Mick Jenkins]
And ain’t no way around it
Since this time zone shit been founded
Stretched my pockets, switched accountants
Postal if I’m not next to you
Bi-coastal I’m just one flight away
I just pray the plane never tidal wave
Pray you never crash when you type my name
Well fuck a text message just call me back I need to FaceTime
Two hours ahead don’t waste time
Speed racer she don’t need to break lines
Just a payphone
Meet up on my hotline sixty minutes we be actin’ like it’s Dateline
Take that shit straight into a date night
Take all night we get home late night
Then I take a redeye now I’m sitting stateside
And I can only think about what a great night
And I can only think about what your face like
And I can only think about when you call mle
Baby take time
Baby make time
Baby make time

Satin on, your shoulders sliding
Gravity on my side again
Tracing down your spine until
The lace is on the floor
You ain’t even got a bed frame yet
But the mattress cool
Last time I checked
The last time that I slid through
We were discussing where head once its over
Hard as hell to keep my composure
And when the miles disappear
And the inches accrue
With your lips on my neck and the rest of you too
I shake my ancients envision an outer sanctum
A world we crafted from pages
Apples Adams and ancients
How loving you was a cadence
How loving me makes me braver
Courage beyond the ballad
Ain’t no way they can tame us

To Not Pretend
03:06

For awhile
If we could just be friends
When it’s too late
For us to not pretend
When it’s too late
For us to not pretend
And for awhile
If we could just be friends
When it’s too late
For us to not pretend
For us to not

I’m on the chase like a letterpress
Dead ends and dreams tend to coalesce
All things will end and you know it best
I’m not a movable type but
I’ll call you on the road
There’s somehwere I need to go
There’s still more I need to know
We brace ourselves for the snow
When Fillmore County gets cold
[FLOOR CRY]
Scared it’s the last time
That I’ll ever see you
If we don’t speak again
How can I forgive you
But you’ve got a hold on me
It’s kind of like magic
Yeah it splits me right in half
When everything’s a trick
[Together]
I’ll call you on the road
There’s somehwere I need to go
There’s still more I need to know
We brace ourselves for the snow
I probably should have known
The way things go on your own
How clay loam always erodes
The world spins out of control
And Fillmore County gets cold

Reflection No. 6

When all this extra time
Cedes to real life
I realize I can’t escape
Staring at the fields
If nothing’s really real
I’ll make the winter now my home
